Default Didn\'t Listen to Doyle on Aces-- What Would You Have Done

live tourney. Total t of 111K. 15 players left, I have 9400t, am around 4th or 5th place. Big stack at my table-- 11-12K-- is loose/aggressive player I am most worried about.

Blinds 250-500

Big stack limps from UTG, two other limpers. I am CO with AA and bet 2500, everyone folds but Villain UTG, who calls.

Flop comes 10-9-7 (Doyle: (paraphrasing) "with aces I am going to check if the flop suggests a straight or a flush, particularly a straight"). I know this guy and how he plays and figure there's a good chance that he's called me with some sort of medium connector, which of course this flop may have hit.)

He checks, I push. 6900 to go. Pot is now about 13400.

He debates a call for a long time, and when he makes it says "I hope you don't have a pair." Said later he thought there was a chance I was pushing with AK.

He had 98o-- 13 outs twice-- wins it with a 6 on the river.

In retrospect his call was easier than he made it out to be, although he would have been crippled if he lost the hand.

I now believe I should have followed Doyle's advice. When he missed the turn-- a duece-- then I could have pushed and had a better chance of picking up the pot since the odds would have been against him.

Thoughts??

i would have played it like you did.

s/s is all about playing with very deep stacks - not the ~19 bb's you had. btw, it would be good to mention if the flop is rainbow/two-flush/monotone. but you're pushing regardless.

Oddly enough, you nailed this yourself. Check the flop, push the river, you have a better chance. Doyle is no dummy, and given your read of the player, you showed the wisdom of the original advice. Really, what hands would you have pushed off with your flop bet that you wouldn't push off with a turn bet? If he has a set, he's obviously going no where, but both a str8 and flush draw might drop after the turn push, but less likely on the flop. Since he might also have called your PF raise with 9T suited, his top two pair would have also made him brave enough.

I like your after the fact reasoning better than your in game, but that's my strength as well.

this is a very draw-heavy board. you do not want to give a free card.

You are the favorite on the flop with two cards to come. I like putting my money in when I am the favorite. What are you going to do when you check the flop and he leads on the turn?
He's obviously going nowhere with your flop check and I doubt
you'll fold if makes a big bet leading at you. If you do then
it's a big mistacke. You just got unlucky.

As you played it you have no choice but to push here.
You could think about raising a bit more preflop with those limpers but either way if you raise I think you're committed for your stack. Sometimes you just get stacked by the run of the cards and it can feel like you maybe could have got away from the hand when, in reality, you couldn't have.
