Here was my line:

I 3-betted, he called.

Turn: J

He checks, I check.

River: 3

He bets, I call.

Who likes?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm just not sure I see how this is better than simply calling down on the turn + river. You win more when ahead, and lose less on the times he decides to donk the turn or river on you.

Is it not okay to err on the side of saving some bets when you're not absolutely sure you are ahead? I suppose that this depends on an individual's own need to minimize variation. It's not like a pair of 7s is a super strong hand or anything.

I think I would rather bet the turn and check behind on the river. Seems like an easy fold if we get check-raised again. And we might have the best hand still.

We have 3 possibilities:

He's either bluffing, has a hand, or folding.

If we check the turn, he's almost always betting the river, or calling one of our bets out of a 'wtf'. If he has a hand here waiting to c/r, we get the showdown.

This line shines I think because sometimes he will fold for 1 more, but always bet the river.

Oh yeah, given the flop 3-bet I love the turn check-through. However, I was arguing that we should just be calling down from the check-raise on the flop. And betting if checked to at any point.

I assuming the flop is a rainbow yeah?

I find it difficult to put a preflop caller then a flop C/r on a hand.

We can assume:
He's bluffing, putting your on OC/Smaller PP and wants you to fold.

He has king and gets maximum value, However surely he will fear a stronger king from you? C/r is a pretty aggressive way to play a preflop raiser.

A weak 7, Who assumes you're bluffing.

You say he doesn't bluff? Or you don't think a player often bluffs, So you put him on a king.

So you paid 2.5BB and think you're losing, You also killed a bluff.

Check-Calling: Continues a bluff, Costs 3BB(we assume he'll bet the turn and river after he raised the flop).

Or if you think you're behind(Not sure how bit the pot has become). Why not fold the turn? Pots about 4BB then right?

I think you should be worried if you're lines don't consist of seeing a showdown. ALWAYS SEE A SHOWDOWN HERE.

I call it down unless I improve.
I dont like a flop 3bet that much because a CR on the turn IŽd probably have to fold but I want to see a showdown here.
If you check the turn you win 1SB less when ahead than if you call down.
Raising the turn for a free showdown is not that good here because he folds his weakest hands instead of maybe bluffing them again on the river and he cant have many draws.
