Turning Stone 1/3 Limit
I went to Turning Stone yesterday, should be going more now that I realize it's only about an hour from my house. I sat down at a 1-3 Limit, which was odd to me to start since I'm used to playing online and had only played in a casino at Foxwoods where the lowest limit was 2-4. SB/BB were both $1. The odd (to me) thing was that before and after the flop there was no set betting structure, calling was $1, but you could raise $2 or $3, and reraise in the same manner. I've never heard of this before. Also, new players didn't have to post when joining the table. Are these rules fairly common?

Re: Turning Stone 1/3 Limit
My buddy said to bypass the 1/3 game and go right to 3/6. I have not made it there yet but I think I will avoid the lower limit when I go.

Re: Turning Stone 1/3 Limit
I'm thinking the same. I was doing well for the first hour, then the chaser's put me on tilt. I was happy to at least have the discipline to leave with some money, knowing that I wasn't adapting to the table correctly.

Re: Turning Stone 1/3 Limit
It's called a "spread game" and Lee Jones has a little section on it in his book. It's a little different for the obvious reason that flop bets are not necessarily cheaper. But yeah, I've played that and it makes nanolimits online look like a Rock Garden. 3/6 is of course full of soft, bad playing postflop donks too, but actually tighter than most other casinos of the same limit. I'm guessing the rake is also especially horrendous at the 1/3 game.

[/ QUOTE ] Turning Stone 3/6 players have the intelligence of an average bowling ball. They also feature minors since the casino is 18+ instead of the usual 21+. FWIW if you are confident in your game at all, and you have the BR, play the 5/10 game. It plays like party 1/2. |
