Whats a good hotel in Vegas

Hi

I am european and just plan my first Las Vegas journey. I want make it not tooo expensive. Whats a good hotel ?...in the moment i like the boardwalk its near the bellagio.

I've never been in the Boardwalk hotel but the casino is a dump, I'd keep looking. Avoid Westward Ho. Imperial Palace is borderline. Anything else on the strip is OK.

The answer to your question totally depends on your budget. How much do you want to spend per night? I can say that the Boardwalk is a complete dump. I have visited friends staying there, and the hotel is not a quality property. Of course, if it's your first visit to Vegas, and you don't expect to spend much time in the room anyway, then why care? It's just a place to sleep.

There's only one place on the strip I would NOT recommend anyone stay at and it's the Boardwalk. Even if you have to spend a few extra dollars, stay anywhere else but there.

The Sahara is fine. I just sleep there and take a dump.

Rooms are soso. Location soso depending what u want to do.

Poker room is ok from my understanding.

Rooms are cheap. 50 a night.

Last time i was in vegas i stayed at the boardwalk and it was fine... just what i wanted... a cheap, clean room to catch a few ZZZ and take a poop. Just avoid their cheezy casino and if you meet a lady friend id advise going back to her hotel. The location of the Boardwalk on the strip trumps the bad aspects of it in my opin.

Hotel San Remo is a nice one. Its right around the corner from a bunch of big Casinos (NYNY, Luxor, Mandalay) at the South end of the strip, less than a block away from the strip. I think I payed $30/night and got discount tickets to their magic show.

As is the norm, I didn't spend much time there, but I remember the sheets and towels were clean when I needed them.

I agree, the San Remo is a nice inexpensive hotel in a good area but no poker room. The Excalibur is very reasonably priced and in the same area as the San Remo, MGM, Tropicana, Luxor, New york, New York. The Excalibur has a good poker room This group of hotels is on one end of the strip. The Tropicana is inexpensive, dated,but has a nice pool. I've always enjoyed this area of the strip--lots of activity and you can take a shuttle bus(or even walk-not recommended) to go furthur up(down?) along the strip.

Near the Bellagio the Imperial Palace or Barbary Coast should be inexpensive but I've never stayed there.

All and all, I'd recommend the Excalibur for its location, ro0ms andpoker availability.

You probably have access to Expedia.com or Travelocity.com--you can get some decent prices through these sites or go to the web site of the hotel directly. I would not be unusual for the daily rate of the Excalibur to be $79-$99/ day and the Tropicana and San Remo to be about $69-$89/ day.

Just got back from Vegas. I played most of my poker at the Imperial Palace and ended up wishing I had stayed there (we stayed at the Flamingo).

The poker room at the IP is great! No smoking, short wait if any, coffee, ice water, finger sandwiches, donughts, cocktail service is quick and regular, dealers and floor are AWESOME!, two big screen TVs, you earn $3 in comps for each hour played (can be used for food, gift shop, rooms, basically anything you can buy at the IP). I talked to several people who were staying there and they said the rooms were great and recently remodeled.

I will be staying and playing at the IP on my next trip to vegas! If you like snooty or trendy, this is NOT the place for you.....we loved it!!!

When I go to Vegas now with my wife, we usually stay at the upper end resorts (i.e Bellagio, THEHotel at Mandalay Bay, Mandalay Bay) due to my better half not being a big gambler. She likes spas, pools, shopping, etc... What's a guy to do ... at least she lets me play poker. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

But, if I were going by myself or with a buddy to simply play poker, eat, sleep and play poker, here is where I would consider staying if I was budget conscious:

Monte Carlo: probably the best overall value on the strip, since it is centrally located on the strip. Usually the rates are pretty good mid-week. The rooms are nothing special, nor is the casino. They do have a non-smoking poker room, albeit small, and not too bad of a spa/workout room.

Luxor: about the same as Monte Carlo, but you will get a little bit of a younger crowd here.

MGM: I personally don't like this place for some weird reason, but the rates are usually OK, due to it's sheer number of rooms. Also close to most poker rooms on the strip. I think b/c it is so big, it makes me feel like I am in some Orwellian novel or something.

Flamingo and Bally's: I've never stayed at either. I've heard the rooms are a little long in the tooth, so I'd choose these last out of this catagory. Flamingo does have a nice pool, however. Both are very centrally located on the strip.

Harrah's: if you stayed in one, you stayed in them all.

OK, those are the mid-range economy class. But, if you are travelling from Europe, I recommend you spend a little extra and try and get a room at one of the mid-expensive hotels. You may find a good deal on the internet. I mean, if you are travelling that far, enjoy it! I would recommend in this order:

THEHotel at Mandalay Bay (surprisingly, I have found some good rates here)- has poker room close (Mandalay Bay's)

Mandalay Bay - has poker room

Mirage - has poker room

Paris - no poker room, but close to many others

Treasure Island - I put this here simply b/c the rooms are pretty nice, pool and workout rooms OK, but aside from the Mirage, you are walking to all poker rooms.

Absolute no stays:

Boardwalk - I wouldn't let my dog sleep there.

Excalibur - smells like urine to me. And the King Arthur theme gives me the creeps. But, good low-limit poker room.

Westward Ho or Circus Circus - just gross.

Bourbon Street - see Westward Ho, and multiply by 100.
