Doping in poker
Paul Phillips' article on Slate has made me wonder about whether it makes sense to talk about "doping" when it comes to poker. After all, if a player who has been legitimately diagnosed with an attention deficit disorder can take a drug which greatly improves his patience and focus, what's to stop other players from getting bogus diagnoses or simply buying those drugs on the black market? Is a player who snorts Ritalin on the morning of his big final table appearance giving himself an unfair advantage over his opponents? What about a cash game player who mainlines Red Bull because he's been playing for 48 hours straight, but the game is still super-juicy? Should players face penalties for using these kinds of chemical aids? Or is trying to regulate this sort of thing hopeless and/or unnecessary?

[/ QUOTE ] hopeless at best. for every player who benefits from doing a drug there are probably 5 who are degenerates paying you off at the low stakes or drunk at any level. do you no longer want to see the drunks at your table? The only thing I don't want to see is cheating at any table, needless to say or collusion. edit: happy birthday |

[/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't go so far as to say it doesn't matter as Ungar did it constantly. additionally, one of other hero's does it to stay awake and beat stud & omaha games or split games... |

It helps you stay awake. Doesnt help you win you help you win. And last i heard redbulls arent illegal so if u drink 10 to stay up for a 48 hour session how is this wrong? Lets try an experiment. Im going to go to a 1-2NL game ask watch it and the fidn the worst player at the game and give him 3 red bulls and some rittilen and give him 5k of my money to play 5-10 NL im sure with this advantage he is now gonna bring me great returns......

From 'what I hear' adderall would be perfect for poker. It keeps you alert yet relaxed. It may make you an annoying motormouth at the table though.
