Default \'Check\' When not to check..

So.. here's a funny story (maybe)

Im playing poker all day at my local casino.. Like 10 hours.. No big deal, but Im there with a bunch of buddies who just play blackjack.

So I decide to hang with them for a little bit.

So im playing Black Jack.. I get dealt a Ten and a Nine against the dealers bust card..

Do I want a card? No. I CHECK.. CHECK.. .. I.E. HIT ME.. I bust and lose and the whole table looks at me.

So used to checking in poker, forgot what that same hand motion meant in BJ HAHAHAA

The dealer was a complete and utter moron for not asking you if you really wanted a hit on 19. F'in twit. It's called basic customer service.

My problem is that if I go play pitch blackjack, I'm damn near kicked out of the casino by the time I quit bending over and peeking at the cards, covering them with my hands. They're awefully uppity any time you put two hands on the cards. Plus, you just look like an idiot squeezing your blackjack cards and bending down to peek so nobody else can see.

Seriously. In fact, this sort of thing would probably get the dealer reprimanded by someone in the pit. They want you to feel comfortable at the blackjack table -- anything to make you place more bets. Sure, the house wins one extra bet from you on a goofy hand where you clearly meant to stand -- but I bet it left a sour taste in your mouth. They know this.

Mildly -EV to hit in that spot, but it's a great image play. You'll get lots of action on your big hands from the other players.

Better yet when the player to his right doubles down and he wants to muck his ATo.

Well, since he has a pair you are OBVIOUSLY either a small underdog, or a huge underdog.

No it wouldn't. I dealt various pit games including blackjack for over 7 years in several casinos, before my career change. Not one would ever have a dealer in trouble for letting the player hit a hand. The only thing they will say is..."if they dont know how to play or can't count, they shouldn't play", LOL.

Pitch BJ is different. The dealer can't see your cards when you ask for a hit. I've looked at players and said...wtf would you do that for? Then appologize that I can't do anything to fix it as the hit signal and card were both given already.

When I'm dealt an 11 and the dealer has a 6 showing I like to push my chips towards the betting circle and say "all in" with a smile. It's funny how some of the players have no idea what I'm talking about.
