$5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
I was back home recently in the WNY area and saw an advertisement for a $5100 tournament being held at Seneca Niagara Casino in January (or was it February?) Anyways...who is actually going to play in this? Just doesn't seem like the kind of economy that will support something like that... Anyone in the area have any thoughts? I may be interested in a satellite or something, but don't have any information on that. Any facts would be appreciated...

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
Don't think this will get much action. They had a few $100 and $300 final tourney a few weeks back and couldn't even get 50 people for it. no way they'll be pulling in any big numbers for the $5000 one. I might try a satellite or two, but only if there is a guaraneteed pool. I believe it said a big number, but said based on 200 entries in fine print. Definitely not worth it if you're planning on coming here just for the tourney. And don't listen to them if you call. I called and kept asking on the ones a couple weeks ago and they kept saying they had 100 players and bla bla, I get there and they have like 15 players signed up. Terrible.

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
Just thought maybe the last post sounded a little too negative. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that they're trying, and wish they could get huge tourneys, but I just don't see it happening. Not around here anyway.

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
Was part of a chop last year in a $200 tournament they had in the fall... Considering they had WAY more entries than anticipated, it was very well run and had a great structure. (Similar to a pokerstars tournament). Like you said, it's great they're trying...but the area just doesn't seem to be conducive for a big tournament like this... Would seem like they would have to run satellites for 6 months just to have a good enough field for this event...

I actually live in the WNY area (Williamsville) but the internet makes things so easy that I don't go the casino nearly as much as I should. Where exactly are you guys from?
The few times I went to the Seneca Casino, I only played limit, do they run decent NL tournies on a regular basis? |

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
Yeah, I have to express my doubts. Although the 225 dollar tourneys have been pretty good...so good that both times I've tried to enter I arrived too late to enter. Full tables, and I arrived an hour before the event.
The action at that casino is pretty good. For the re-buy tourneys there's not much in the way of control early on. Seeing people go all in on the first hand with a k2os is not uncommon. If not for the fact that my wife would kill me, I wouldn't mind that 5100 dollar entry. Hell, I've even started a secret bankroll just for that sort of thing. All of us WNY area 2+2 folks ought to get together sometime and pool notes on action in this region. I started a thread over here . Let's get something going. We'll need something to get us through a long winter. |

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
I'm in Williamsville too and I rarely, if ever hit the casinos anymore. Casino Niagara has about the most beatable NL game(s) ever...but they're only $1/2 and the occasional $2/5 games. A few of my friends deal at the Seneca poker room, I'll ask them about the tournaments. I'm not sure if they'd deal them or if they bring other people in. They've never really mentioned them before. I know they have some satellites for some tournaments, but I've never heard of a $5000+ tournament around here. I'd think it would have about 0 potential.

Re: $5100 for a tournament in Niagara Falls?
There were DEFINITELY no lines or worries about getting into the last set of $100-$300 tourneys they ran all week a few weeks ago. In fact, turnout was so low that they kept registration open a half hour to an hour into the event.
For NL action they have decent games but usually only $2/$5 Nl. NL action at Casino Niagara is good, but like mentioned only lower limits. For the best NL games I've seen almost anywhere I would go to Fallsview casino. They spread from $5/$5 NL $500 buyin max all the way up to $50/$100 NL on weekends and usually at least one $10/$20 NL during the week and 4-5 of the $5/$5 games. The action in unreal and so many fish it isn't even funny. I brought a friend who just learned for a week and was terrible. I gave him a few pointers and he made $500-$2000 the first 5 times we went. He had a couple losing sessions since then but is way ahead and doesn't play well at all. Thats definitely the place to be. |
