Does Gender Affect Your Play Online?
I was talking to a few of my male friends last night all of whom happen to play online (all with moderate success) at various limits. One of them stated that he always seem to play worse against a female. Another agreed and then another. Gender doesn't matter to me when I play so I asked why and they basically all said that they didn't give the female credit for their hands or their raises and ultimately played far too aggressively against the female.
I thought of making this a poll and maybe I will, but for now I would like to hear anyone's comments/opinions about how you might respond to gender when you play online (or at B&M games for that matter) and I would love to have some females respond too. Thanx! |

Re: Does Gender Affect Your Play Online?
I agree that a lot of guys out there over bet their hands trying to "run over" the girls, partucularly with unimproved face cards. The irony is that a large % of the "girls" playing online are just other guys.
Personally, I turn the avatars off and have no idea whether I'm playing against guy or a girl. |

No, I do not have this problem. Why would a woman play worse than a man? I don't get it.

I turn off all that stuff. It's distracting. You can't know anything about an online opponent except stats and chat, and chat is unreliable.

Re: Does Gender Affect Your Play Online?
I would never give a rats butt. They could be Klingon tax collectors and it wouldn't matter. My chat on all four sites is disabled too because so many idiots use the rant for angle shooting and to trigger tilt. I never tilted but watching a screen fill up with mispelled cussing takes away from tracking the action.
Just one comment on the women players(who are probably ugly old men): one of the avatars on Party has enormous boobs. I have no problem with that. It provides good role models for the up-and-coming female players out there. |

Re: Does Gender Affect Your Play Online?
does anyone feel that their play changes at the B&M games against women? do you bring other stereotypes to the table when considering your strategy?
i feel like its probably +EV to leave the stereotypes at home... |

Re: Does Gender Affect Your Play Online?
Gender doesn't affect my play online because abut 93% of the "females" are males.
