Re: Question on \"Jesus\" Ferguson
i would be shocked if it wasnt real. i used to know someone who could cut a banana with a card. he would chuck cards over building tops for hundreds of feet, it was ridiculous. i dont think he could slice a carrot though.

Re: Question on \"Jesus\" Ferguson
There was a segment on the TV show "Mythbusters" about whether it was possible to kill someone with a playing card and one of the hosts could throw a card very hard, like Ferguson. He could stick it pretty well into foam, so a banana shouldn't be a problem.
However, when they built a torso out of ballistic gel, he couldn't do much more than wound it. Of course then they had to build a high powered card thrower out of a router body. I can't remember how that turned out, but I don't think it's possible to kill someone with a thrown (even machanically pitched) playing card. |

Re: Question on \"Jesus\" Ferguson
If someone can tell me the width of a playing card and its weight, I can do the math. It's pretty simple...
Assume: 25 m/sec speed when it hits (~56 mph) 0 m/sec after impact .05 sec impact time ( long time ~guess) 2 grams for weight of card a = -500 m/s/s F = ma: f = 2g * -500 m/s/s = 1 N Banana = 1 inch wide Card = 1/16 of inch wide N per inch^2: 1 in x 1/16 inches = 16 N/in^2 Which gives you 71.1 lbs/in^2 So it makes sense that that would cut through a banana and maybe even a carrot. -Gryph |

[ QUOTE ]
Anyone know whether it is BS or real? [/ QUOTE ] As part of the "prize" for winning the super on FullTilt, I and my 9 other online players got to eat dinner with a majority of the FullTilt pros a couple of weeks ago. I got to sit right next to Chris, and after dinner was over one of the other guys asked him to demonstrate the card throwing, which he did. So, I can honestly say that I saw him, in person, slice a carrot with playing cards (although from a little closer than 50 ft). |

Re: Question on \"Jesus\" Ferguson
Don't feel bad for asking Chuckster, this is an important question that should be thoroughly debated.
You can easily slice a banana with a playing card by putting the banana on the counter and using the card like a knife. So if you thow it hard and it hits just right, there is no reason it won't slice in half. However, and this is KEY, the banana must be just the right ripeness. If it is still green, the card will bounce off or not slice all the way through. Same thing, ironically, if the banana is too brown since the fruit begins to congeal. To increase your chances as much as possible, the banana must be yellow with no green left. A few brown spots are OK, but once more than 10% of the banana is brown your chances decrease dramatically. |

Re: Question on \"Jesus\" Ferguson
Tornado's have been known to put playing cards into the sides of wood houses, a card through a vegetable is easily plausible.
