Default More breif Vegas notes

Being overweight is no excuse for not having a stylish tattoo on the small of your back, nor is it an excuse for failing to display it by wearing low-rider jeans and a halter top.

If you have ten kids, half of them in strollers, the best way to show them Vegas is by taking them for a walk on the Strip on a Saturday night.

Although vehemently opposed to registering the owners of firearms, I think it is time for the government to step in and license the owners of high heels. Such registration should be contingent on demonstrating an ability to walk in them.

Hints for those contemplating the demonstration of such an ability:

1) No matter how satisfying the ensuing "clomping" sound might be, having the heel and toe strike the pavement at the same time is not acceptable.

2) Leaning way backwards, as though in memory of some long-ago limbo contest, is not as strikingly fashionable as first might be imagined.

There used to be threads on this forum years ago about the disappearance of poker rooms from Vegas casinos. Poker rooms have staged a comeback, but another institution has not: the casino cafe/lunch counter/snack bar. Gambling joints need a place where a gambler can walk in, sit down at a counter, get a quick sandwich and a cup of coffee, and then, after finishing their repast, get back in action. I am amazed at the number of casinos that no longer offer this simple amenity. They seem to have been replaced by food courts, slot machines, and foo-foo joints too horrid to mention.

I will take incompetent walking in high heels over the constant flip-flopping I see now. It seems as if every woman or girl thinks flip-flops are A-OK with their too small jeans and too short halter top thing. Flip flops are for the beach or pool only. Seeing your fat roll because I was given an audible warning by the flip flop is unacceptable.

Agree on lunch counters. Where was the awful place downtown with the rancid miniature hamburgers? Was it the California? These should make a comeback.

Heh, I know the one you mean but can't remember the name. I think it had "Golden" in the name, as in "Golden Californian" or "Golden Corral." I was also telling my wife about the downtown poker room that had spitoons at each table, but couldn't remember that name either.

Foo foo joints? Look, I just love paying $8.50 for a sandwich and $3 for an 8-ounce soda in a plastic cup at "Snacks" in the Bellagio! Nothing wrong with handing the girl a $20 and getting $6 back.

(I actually stayed at the Gold Coast this last trip and, I, well...........I, actually bought two hot dogs in the sports book for 75-cents each I'm so ashamed)

Was it the Golden Goose that had the instant pizza's and little hamburgers (like White Castle - but not edible) back in the 1980's? It was a slot joint, and the pizza's were $2 with free drinks and you could eat while playing nickel slots - I loved it.

Ah, the good old days of downtown Las Vegas! FWIW, you can still get very large shrimp cocktails at the Golden Gate for .99

the .75 hot dogs at gold coast and orleans are nothing to be ashamed of. Those are real vienna beef and are good. The buns and condiments aren't right, but htey are easily the best .75 meal around.
