Vegas...here I come

Well...this weekend will be the first time I actually play poker in Vegas. I've always been to intimidated and stuck to the blackjack tables, but this time I'm taking the plunge. Theres really no point to this post, I'm just getting freaking excited. Anyone have any good recomendations on the most profitable limits, casinos ect... I think I will play at one of the major casinos just to say I did, but any recomendations would be greatly appreciated. I'm staying in a condo on the strip, will have a car at my disposal, so really anything goes. I will most likely be playing anywhere between 2/4-5/10 and maybe dabble in some NL if avialble and may try to catch a tourney if one is going at the casino I'm at.

Play 3/6 at the Luxor or Imperial Palace....actually 3/6 at any of the major casinos that have poker rooms. The Mirage is nice...I heard the MGM Grand has a new poker room that is pretty cool. You might want to try Wynn's new casino. I don't know...I played poker for the first time ever at the Luxor so I always play there at least once when i go to Vegas.
I don't know anything about the NL games in Vegas...but I know alot of the casinos have small daily tournaments now...

i hate the luxor. but thats just myt opinion.

my favorite place for no-limit is mgm grand, by far. there's a 1-2 game there with a 200 max buyin. i havent played limit there, but i would in a heartbeat.

I just got back from Vegas, (posted my trip report in this section. Shameless plug). Anyways, the Stardust 1/2 $100 nl game had a drunk who was a horrible player...but enough about me, (rimshot). Seriously though, it did have a lot of drunks and bad players in it when I played there late. Also, suprisingly, the Bellagio 4/8 game at 3am was really soft. IMO. Some people have written in here that they think the Bellagio 4/8 game is easy because it is the lowest game for the rich people that stay there. I personally played with a couple of well dressed older Asian women who barely knew how to play. My thoughts were that they probably had wealthy husbands who were playing $5,000 baccarat, and that the women were killing time, but I may just be stereotyping.

I know what you mean about being nervous, but just have a couple of drinks and wait a few orbits before jumping in. Once you get into the game, that nervousness will drop. Have fun and good luck.

Limit: Bellagio's $4/8, MGM Grand's $3/6, $4/8, Aladdin's $3/6
No Limit: Bally's $1/2, Stratosphere's $1/2, Excalibur's $1/3, MGM Grand $1/2

Just came back from Vegas 2 weeks ago - Luxor 2-4 was amazingly soft on the weekend. MGM 3-6 and 4-8 are good but I got tired of waiting for tables to open. Luxor also has a $50 max NL (1-1-2?) that's great if you're donking it up with friends, otherwise it sucks as people go all in pre-flop 90% of the time.

your not sterotyping too much. The Bellagio has few asian ladies that regualarly play 15-30 while their husbands play 80-160. They know what they are doing but tend to play too many hands

I was also very excited and nervous to play when I first played poker live in vegas. My hands were shaking like crazy when I won my first pot at the 2/4 luxor.

I really liked the MGM room and the competition at the 3/6 was very easy. Basically, everything you read about the typical low limit player in SSHE describes 95% of the people at the tables.

I _Just_ got back from Vegas tonight and this was my first serious poker trip. I suggest trying the 4/8 at Bellagio, but watch out... it's like playing with dynamite. My first session there I did really well and we had a couple of rich drunk guys trying to learn how the game works. I didn't make a killing, but I felt comfortable at this table. My second session was a horrible, horrible experience though. The Asian lady's were playing this time, and everyone was a freaking rock. The only pot I won was split with the guy next to me. After burning through two $200 buyins I decided maybe I was the sucker and left to play some drunken 2/4 at my hotel.

The rest of the trip I played in some really soft games at Bally's (2/4), Excalibur (2-6 spread), and MGM (2/4). I know what they say about the rake in 2/4, but quite frankly it's better than the black eyes your bankroll can suffer if something goes wrong.

If you can get down there, I suggest hitting the Excalibur early in the day for the 2-6 spread. They have "Free Poker Lessons" and the class dumps into that or the 1-3 spread. The betting structure is a little goofy if you don't know what spread is, but you'll catch on quick. It'll just take a little more counting to get the pot odds right.
