Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
[ QUOTE ]
It is impossible for me to do this. I do not understand how you people can do this. [/ QUOTE ] You should really get ready for this. If you think you're on a smooth escalator to Greensteins game, you're wrong. You'll drop down at some point. And if you drop down from the 1k/2k to the 100/200 and it feels like play money, you may be in trouble. |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players.
[ QUOTE ]
I know 2 off the top of my head that play 50/100 and 5/10 regularly....you do too. Maybe they could weigh in here. [/ QUOTE ] ok. i can explain this: the 50/100, 25/50 games are only going so often. and they are only good sos often. players in highest stake games are action junkies. (edit: alot of players in this game are under bankrolled. 10000 today, 400 tommorow. the win margin in 50/100 vs 5/10 is alot smaller then in 5/10 vs 1/2 |

Do you drop down even If you are doing well. Maybe I am just running good and the statement I quoted from OP was in that context: "Dropping down while running good" |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
Any full buyin 2/4 and above seems astronomical to me. The biggest purchase I have made in my life has been my dell 2001 fp (I think, maybe it was my computer?). One hand of poker being +/-400 is pretty significant compared to that.
I play poker to win money, not to get a rush from the stakes I'm playing. Furthermore, I don't use pokertracker or any other SPECIFIC record keeping data, so I don't know which limit is my most proiftable/hr, I can only guess. |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
I think AZK plays a lot at prima, where there arent many games going so 4 players could be playing at the same games: a NL 10/20, 5/10 and two 2/4, etc.

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
I play 5/10, 10/25, and 25/50 regularly. What I play is based on a combination of the following:
What games are going How I have been running How I have been playing How I am feeling How the games are playing How good the games are etc. |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
well, ive never played 50/100 (although im clearly a "top player, ahem), so i dont know that im qualified to respond, but...
im a very competetive person. in poker, $$ is how we keep track... even when the $$ isnt super signifcant, i still wanna win. i hate to lose at anything. besides the smaller games you mentioned are not played for negligible amounts of $$. my record for internet 2/4 in one session is 6K. thats significant for me. |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
Right now, my main game is 5/10 nl. I definitely know that I would not be able to take .5/1 nl seriously. However, if I jump up to 50/100 and play in an especially juicy game, I don't think I'll have the same problem jumping back down to 5/10 nl when 50/100 is tough or not running. Two main reasons for this:
1) 50/100 does not run regularly enough for me to regularly find 4 good tables to play. One good table is hard to find. As a result, playing anything over 10/20 as your 'main game' is going to be pretty hard to do right now. 2) Unlike .5/1 nl, 5/10 nl is still serious money. 4 Tabling it, it's not too difficult to pull in 400-450/hr. If winning this kind of money is not good enough, go spend it and enjoy it. Take your girl out to a nice dinner. When you get the $100 check, tell yourself it only took you 15 minutes to earn that. $400/hr or $800k/yr (40 hr week) is a lot of money. |

Re: Moving between limits - question for top players
Just keep track of netteller/whatever withdrawls. Much as I value pokertracker, I'd never count on it for tax purposes.
