Default FCC Chairman quote

In a forum on television content, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, had this to say about the possibility of the government stepping in and setting decency standards for cable and satellite TV:

"You can always turn the television off and of course block the channels you don't want but why should you have to?"

I'm not making this up - this is a direct quote.

Um...Excuse me Mr. Chairman, but I PAID for my satellite and cable TV programming. It's up to ME to determine what is and what is not appropriate for my children to watch. Not you, not George Bush, no, not even Pat Robertson.

I'm so goddamned sick of this administration pushing right-wing agendas, all for the "sake of the children."

You know what? Screw the children. They don't pay taxes. I do.

And you can have my TV remote when you tear it out of my cold, dead hands.

Fuc*ers.

I'm sorry - but Janet Jackson's titties are a matter of grave national importance - we must spend weeks discussing the matter.

And having done so, we must pass more laws cause otherwise it'll look we did nothing and we need paper trophies for our Religious base.

Please don't make this hard on us - when the jackboots come to your door for watching porno, please lay down the remote - it's what Jesus wants you to do - and come with us for re-education.

Sincerely,
the Republican Party.

Uh, wasn't he advocating ala carte pricing? In other words, instead of blocking channels, you could simply not buy them in the first place.

Later, yes. But I think you're missing the point. Why is the government messing with a service people BUY and is not available to any child unless that child's parents allow him to watch it, in the first place?

If Little Timmy's parents don't care that Little Timmy is watching the Sopranos or a Girls Gone Wild special, that's they're business - not the FCC Chairman's. It is not the government;s responsibility or mandate to legislate morality.

And I'm sick of Liberals pushing their left-wing agendas and, usually with a tear in their eye, claiming, "It's for the sake of the children." Or their other fave, "If it saves just one child."
