Default delete vs. quarantine

On my McAfee VirusScan, i can choose to either delete or quarantine this file that was found on my computer. What's the difference between delete and quarantine?

delete will remove it from your system. quarantine will stick it in a protected folder which you can check later to recover something if it was quarantined wrongly.

Typically the quarantined files will be deleted after a certain amount of time unless you take action to stop that. Sometimes you are responsible for clearing out the quarantined stuff to officially delete it.
