There are a number of ways they could do this and still write the hand histories to your HD.

I used to 8 table without a HUD, did it 2 months ago, my win rate was 4.5 ptbb/100 NL 400 and NL 600 6 max, now it's 5.24 with a HUD, helps yes, but not mandatory.

I feel fairly certain that Party will ban HUDs

I'm not as certain of this as you are but I would not be surprised.

Party could go a long way toward reducing the benefit of HUDs by preventing the logging of "observed" hands.

Currently, a player can open the maximum number of tables, fire up PT, and go to sleep. The hands get logged, the player gets information, and Party gets nothing. -EV for them.

When a player actually has to play 10K hands to acquire 10K hands worth of data, Party has earned 10K hands of rake. +EV for them.

It's not the HUD that's the problem.

I never understood why they send observed HH to your HD. I am too complacent to do datamining but a HUD helps even me with my laughable 4 tables. Or, at least I think it helps me, it may only be a psychological crutch...

Think that they are more likely to close the observed hands loop than ban HUDS

Yeah, why do they send observed HH and not allow observed chat? (not that they are related at all).

I'm gonna go ahead and keep datamining, and I disagree with a lot of the posters who say it doesn't help that much. It helps a lot.

Every hand posted in SS has stats of the player so people can get a reasonable read before replying to how the hand should have been played.

Observed hand histories aren't going anywhere. They implemented it due to the load on their servers from the multitude of players requesting hand histories.

Even if Party did ban HUD's, then people would go back to using PokerTracker's Note Export function.

A HUD doesn't make a person a better player. It only facilitates multi-tabling, which is obviously a route that PP is willing to take, given the increase in the maximum # of playable tables.

I don't think HUD's are going anywhere just yet, but this wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.

This doesn't matter. There was little to no demand for observed HH.

Why would Party ban HUDs? Party gets more money when money circulates faster.

If most multi-tablers went only 2-tabling it would seriously hurt Partys earnings at least short term.

Very high number of multi-tablers use HUDs.
