Default proper buy in for tourneys

i know about 300BB for limit, 20 X buyins for no limit. What is the correct bankroll for tourneys? thanks in advance...

i would imagine it would be more than 20 X buyins (due to higher variance), but you'd probably get a better answer from STT/MTT.

edit:
STT faq

for stt, it says 20-30 buyins is considered enough for low limits, and 50-100 buyins for higher limits.

In the past I have read a 100 buy ins, but it depends if you plan to satellite into the bigger ones I guess.

I use the following rules of thumb:
Limit 500BB
NL 40x max buyin
SNG's buyin = no more than 2% of total role, 1% normally
MTT's - I have heard from several sources that a 5% per buyin of total bankroll is adequate. I don't know though, I don't play MTT's regularly. I have heard they can be exceptionally swingy.

Note my practices concerning bankroll fall into the ultra conservative category.
If tourneys are your thing, you might want to checkout the MTT and SNG forums on the left column just below the banner ad. Your questions may be better answered there.
