Default OT: Why SnGs?

Why SnGs?

Yeah, I know, a FAQ question already answered... flame on. But, given there are many reasons, I'm curious about what serious players say from a financial point of view.

I love SnGs and enjoy playing them especially when I don't have time for MTT and don't have patience for cash game. That's enough reason for me, I'll keep playing them.

But.

From profitability standpoint, why do SnGs?

Taking ROI from FAQ, and assuming average of an hour per SnG even top levels of 55, 109 and 215 are going to pay $7, $11 and $15 per table/hour. So to even approach a six figure rate, you'd have to 4-table or more even the bigger games.

Just for comparison to NL cash game, if we take a $1100 bankroll, which is 50 $22SnG buy-ins (FAQ rec) plow through 100 games/hours at FAQ rate of 20% we make $440, a bit over $4/hr.
That same bankroll is about 20 buyins (FAQ rec) in the .25/.50 NL cash game and adjusting the 8PTBB/100 hands to 4PTBB/50 hands and guessing 50/hour is doable that's $4/hr with just one table.

So, it seems (and my own records confirm for me) that SnGs are more work for similar money for a solid player for a given bankroll.

So, what am I missing? Is there variance issues I'm missing, $ at risk issues, or is multitabling SnGs really "easier" than 1 or 2 tabling cash games or some other factor I'm clueless about? Is there a scaling effect I'm missing by assuming various limits act the same?

Obvisously I'm just a casual player, but I'm curious how the serious player decides to be an SnG specialist.

Agreed. Whenever I try ring games, it's like I am playing with chips and not cash and well, that don't work too well.

Much easier to multi-table, much easier to master & less variance.

Try 8-tabling NL cash games.

Ditto.

I just play SNGs to fund my MTT addiction.

They're more fun. The action changes, and it's like there's a storyline involved -- beginning, middle, end. Cash games just hit the same level of grind every time, every hand unvaryingly for hours that all merge into one and feel the same; there's no big drama at the end where the crowd goes wild. With SNG's, it's easier to maintain my attention span because my brain isn't feeling duller and duller because of boredom. Ring games are so boring people fall asleep during them even multi-tabling. SNG's have too much inherent structure and drama to bore you into drastically declining play quality. They keep you going.

Now I've 8 tabled ring games for 16 hours before, and have never played SNG's for more than 10 and generally play far less than that, but even though I have and can play ring games longer, I really feel every minute of it. Or should I say every goddamn minute of it. When I'm tired and losing concentration on SNG games, I want to take a break, not jump off a bridge like I do after a ring session.

That's probably just me though.

It's often held that SNG's have less variance, and that's a major draw for sure.

I find it MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to 4-table 50-100 NL, than 11-33 SNG's.

4-tabling SNG's are often 4 totally differents games/rythms etc.

Where 4-tables in NL often are very similar in situations etc. (mostly fold - and much less hands/hour than SNG's.

Boring = Easy to multi-table !!!

Same thing.

or is multitabling SnGs really "easier"

[/ QUOTE ]

Hell yes.

Plus, as others said, it's a different game, and one that many of us find fun and easy to beat.
