Default Hibernate vs. Shut Down

I'm the proverbial Mac guy with a laptop Dell PC for poker. I usually "hibernate" the thing rather than shut it down because it's easier. Any downside to this?

Not really. It just boots faster that way.

I don't think so because I hibernate my Sony laptop all the time, rarely shut it down.
