Default DVD Burner doesn\'t recognize blank DVDs

So my DVD burner doesn't recognize blank DVDs. The last time I used it to burn a DVD was probably 9 months ago and it was the same brand of blank DVDs I currently can't get to work. It still plays DVDs and it recognizes CDs and successfully burns them. Has anyone else conquered this problem? I will probably stop by Best Buy tonight to pick up another brand of DVDs. Any suggestions are helpful.

Is it a dual format burner, ie DVD-/+R -/+RW? Or is it a single format drive. Check and see that the disk you're trying to burn is the proper format.

what are you using to burn them with? (software). Nero has a drop down box that makes me choose between CD or DVD.
