Default 234x?

How playable is this hand?

WHat about from Early Position?
Late postion?
Button

And how do suits ad to it?

I had 234J - DS the other day on a $50 PLO/8 Table.

1 Limper, 3 folds. I raise pot. Button Calls, BB Calls, limper calls.

Is this general a +EV play? or a -EV Play?

Default Re: 234x?

I originally expected that 23xx or at least strong 23xx's like 234x would be great in PLO8, because of Steve Badger's advice for the most part... sounded reasonable.

My PTO results from most recent 40k hands:

23xx: 1840 hands, -0.08 BB/hand (VPIP 62, PFR 7)
234x: 353 hands, 0.13 BB/hand (VPIP 73, PFR 13)

So I guess 234x is a winner, but only very slightly. 23 in general isn't as playable as SB makes it sound, IMO.

the value of 234x comes from when an A and another low card flops and you can go for a wheel or flush for high.

It's a very good hand then because having an A on board means someone else almost certainly has top pair and maybe twopair. So you can be freerolling them.

It's real value is that when you hit your hand, someone else is quite likely to have a second best hand. But if they have a second best hand, they might be jamming it, which you don't want yet.

I suppose it has some value in that you can bluff/semi-bluff representing an Ace, but others are usually too likely to have connected with a flop to make that wise.

so playing this hand is sort of like 22 in NLHE -- i want to see a cheap flop and try to bust someone. i think raising with it is bad.

Its a very easy hand to play you hit the nut low or wheel or fold. Its a nice derceptive hand. From early position I would raise your opponents will put you on AA or A2 if an ace flops you can bet otu hoping to get the high hand out.
