Default New Style of Play Earns Big Success

Before I tell you my new style, let me give you a little background info. I won $5 in a Freeroll at Absolute. I killed the micro-limits until I was playing normal stakes. I had my account up to $300 and faltered a little, so I took out $100 to bounce around and get bonuses and lost a bunch and was down to $18, so I did some hardcore brainstorming about my game. I came up with a new plan that is working at Limit Cash Games, NL Cash Games, and NL Tourneys (mostly Single Tables).

Super-Tight, Super-Aggressive.
I've stopped playing suited-connectors (unless AK or KQ) & suited-Aces.
I've stopped limping in Pre-Flop.
I've stopped calling from the Small Blind with marginal hands.
I've stopped calling raised pots from the Big Blind with marginal hands.
I've stopped calling small pairs (77 or lower) in a raised pot fearing domination or a coin flip.
I've stopped playing AQoff, AJoff, KQoff, KJ, 10Joff, K10.

All the little $.50 or $1 more to calls that I haven't made, have helped me build my bankroll to $400 in 4 days.

Congratulations on your recent success. Your system is intriguing. I have some trouble believing it is superior to playing poker.

The above is a half joke, of course. However, since your "system" is entirely designed for pre-flop, I would suggest that your pre-system losses may be the result of problems with your post-flop play. Solid post-flop play makes many of the pre-flop calls that you are avoiding profitable.

4 days isn't big success. It's just 4 days.

I'm not saying there's no merit to the super-aggressive theory though. I've known winning players who play considerably more aggressive than I do. But they also don't pass up profitable situations for the sake of not calling.

You were playing "normal stakes" with a bankroll of $300?

If you can get in cheap this is probably a mistake.

In limit you can sometimes limp behind but this is certainly a good habit.

Again, you'll need to difine marginal. KTs in a 6 way pot should be a limp.

Again, you're probably missing out on value here. Especially in NL if your stacks are deep.

This is fine if you're playing NL on a short-stack. But if deep, you can take someone's whole stack when you hit your set.

If you've stopped playing them in limit hold-em you're leaving much $ on the table.

Overall it sounds like you're playing very few hands very strongly. This might be ok but you're not going to improve much--how can you when you don't play post-flop?--and as you move up you're going to win less and less.

All you are doing is cutting variance slightly and cutting profits considerably. If you were a 3-3.5BB/100 player, this style may net you 1.5-2 BB/100. This sort of play may suit a very weak postflop player, but it is awful for a strong and/or ambitious player.

theres little doubt that you're not any good at poker if you really believe what you're saying is true. there are so many fundamental flaws in your thought process that it goes way beyond tightening up preflop.
