Dumb question about books
I've been playing home poker for about a year now and finally took the plunge into online poker. I don't find myself losing but much rather staying the same. Up Down up Down. While fun not profitable at all. I have purchased the following books:
Winning Low Limit Holdem (Currently Reading this, 1/2 done) Internet Texas Holdem (couple chapters read, On hold for now) The Complete Book of Hold 'Em Poker (1/3 done, On hold) Theory of Poker Super Systems Middle Limit Holdem Poker As you can see i've started to read some of them and want to finish WLLHE before i move on, and perhaps a second read. But i was just wondering what order you would suggest. All these books must seem like overkill but i'm just extreme that way. |

Re: Dumb question about books
After doing some reading I'm thinking of reading WLLHE first, then the complete book and then TOP. But still unsure about the rest. Maybe i do just have too many to read.

Re: Dumb question about books
If it were me (and actually, it is, since I have many of the same books and am in the same dilemma), I'd read WLLHE first, then read WLLHE again, carefully taking notes, and trying to absorb it), then play a lot to make sure I understand what I've picked up, then move on probably to ITH.
(If you'd said you'd started with ITH, I'd have recommended continuing with that book, btw). |

Re: Dumb question about books
Theory of Poker and Super Systems are great books, but they don't help you that much at the lower games because they teach you how to play against decent competition.
KenProspero has good advice: Start by reading WLLH. Once you're done with it, play 2-3K hands. Re-read WLLH and relate it to your experience. Play another 2-3K hands and start applying your new knowledge. Then read SSHE. Play another 2-3K hands, plugging holes. Wash, rinse, repeat. Save TOP, SS, HPfAP, and MLHP till you are ready to move up to $1/2 and $2/4 online. They can be over bearing if you're not ready for them and some of the tactics don't work at the lower leves against the weaker players. btw - Once you're ready, I'd go with TOP, HPfAP, SS, and then MLHP in that order. |

Re: Dumb question about books
you will have a very bumpy ride up to 2/4 if you only read WLLH. the book is great but only for making money at the lowest limits.
SSH, HPFAP to win money at higher than micro |

Re: Dumb question about books
Bwana,
At what level do you think players start playing tight enough that WLLH stops giving you a +EV? |

[ QUOTE ]
another dumb question... what's EV+? [/ QUOTE ] +EV means + Expected Value. Over time will that play or action make you money? Then it is +EV. |
