Help me figure out why I apparently suck at 5/10 6max pt. 1: JJ
UTG is passive and somewhat loose.

Bet it. You can probably fold to a raise without a strong read.
Think of all the times your opponent has called you all the way down with bottom pair. People will call with less than you think. So you lost this one. It happens. |

Re: Help me figure out why I apparently suck at 5/10 6max pt. 1: JJ
Actually an interesting river situation where it first doesn't seem to be. With the A and K both arriving, an argument could be made for check/folding if the passive player bets. Not a good argument, but an argument none the less if there is zero chance he could bluff when he senses weakness or bet a T. Since we don't want to check/fold in most cases, the choice is between check/call or bet/fold (we'll assume he's passive enough that we can't bet/call).
We're not going to induce a bluff very often from a passive, so it's a matter of deciding if the equity is higher from getting value from a lower pair that could check through (a 7 or T), or saving a bet when a hand we beat checks through (perhaps a rivered K or low kicker A). I'm more inclined to believe he has a pair on the flop than he hit his case K on the river. Likewise, many legit A holdings might raise at some point, even if the player is passive. I'm more inclined to believe he has a 7 or T than an A, so I bet for value and plan on folding to a raise. |

Re: Help me figure out why I apparently suck at 5/10 6max pt. 1: JJ
depends on how loose and how passive. Is he likely to be playing many sevens utg? (47s 57s 67s 78 are common loose favorites) many 10s utg? (i love those 105s limpers) If so, you should bet for value (if he's a loose river caller). His passive nature and seeing as how many loose/passives will peel here with a lone ace flop and maybe turn probably mean folding to a river raise is right.

i check call here. [/ QUOTE ] I am shocked. Why would you do that? The only draw on the flop just came in. Bet it to charge a ten or smaller pair and fold to a raise. Guy. |

[/ QUOTE ] two things i've noticed about this game only recently. 1. i've been bluff raised on the river more often and 2. my opponents seem to get better at laying down weak pairs on the river when the river is an ace. may be dumb, but it's a vibe i've gotten recently. |

Re: Help me figure out why I apparently suck at 5/10 6max pt. 1: JJ
...Check/Fold. A King is not folding here anyway. And he might not bet because he has a weak kicker. A strong King would have probably raised you. And he might be afraid of a c/r from you if you have an Ace. You can safely fold to a bet because he will not bet with less than a King or an Ace, and he won't try to bluff with the River Ace, because he knows you will be aware that you might have induced him to bluff and you will call with a King which is what you have been representing. Also, because the pot is pretty small, there is less reason to call.
