Default Implied Odds, EV play, Etc.

After having read lots of posts here, I see a lot of the replies go 'That was -EV play' or 'You should have put x amount in the pot for value'.

My question is - how do you guys work that out while you're playing? Are you all quick at the math, or do you use crib sheets/helper programs/etc?

Can anyone give me any advice and/or pointers please, as I think I pretty much understand the concept of 'Outs' and pot odds but I stuggle to apply them...

Craig

I put drawing odds on a spreadsheet when I was starting out and kept it by my keyboard as I played. At first I referred to it all the time. Now, not at all.

http://www.pokersavvy.com/oddscard.php

A good place to start is memorize 4 outs and 9 outs. 4 being common when you need to spike a particular card to win and 9 outs being for a flush draw with 2 in your hand and 2 on the board.

I've lost mine. I think Lost Wages had one floating around here that was more exhaustive. It's useful to be able to sit down and calculate the probabilities also. You'll want a specific probability after a hand is over (usually a bad beat ) and you'll be able to plug it in quickly.

Ok, that's really handy.

Can anyone point me towards any links that will tell me how to use this info in game? I'm especially interested in all this EV stuff people keep talking about. (I'm such a newbie!!!)

Cheers
Craig
