I agree, enjoy it while it lasts. It's a gold rush. The same as the Californian or the Australian gold rushes; the people who sold up and put everything on the line got burnt.

Not to say we won't be playing in a few years. But these ARE golden times. I think to extrapolate earnings now indifinitely into the future is foolish. Remember the 1999-2000 stock mentality: "Oh look I'm getting 25%+, if I just keep this up for a few more years I can retire". Come 2001 there was a fantastic second hand market for pants!

I think online poker will be illegal in the future, it's just a matter of time. The government is not making money with that now (well not where I live). What will you do if it happens? Write a CV with a : "2004-2007 : Professional online poker player" line ? Or just go play at a casino, where you lose the hability to play 2 or more tables, to stay home with your gf, animals.. And where the game is not the same as online poker.

And remember you'll be in front of a computer doing the same thing day after day. Some person can find that really boring.

If I ever want to try that, I'll take a part job, something like 3 days a week, and play poker the rest of the week and see how it goes. If I like it, cool, If I don't, I still have something.

Very true. I think though, without a sweeping change to laws about online poker and whatnot, it's hard to imagine a great shortage of fish in these lower stakes games.

Of course, the "fish" might get better, and winrates might get lower, etc. etc. Who knows what's gonna happen though?

Yes, yes, and yes again. I can recall reading a blog of one guy who took a shot at playing full time low limit poker. His bankroll is currently $800. I'm sorry, that's a bit much.

I think if anybody were to take a shot at it, they'd be insane not to have a bankroll that's about 4x what most people recommend, and about 6 months worth of living expenses in the bank.

Or, just win a big tournament. Either way, it doesn't seem like the easiest thing in the world. ;P

having spoken to two pros (BM pros, but pros) i can say there is no amount of money that could convince me to play poker for a living. they always said two things:

1. it's a miserable existence relying on variance to put food in your mouth
2. it's even more miserable knowing that much of your salary comes from degenerate gamblers and that, at the end of the day, you've contributed very little to society. the sad thing is that some very very brilliant minds, who could have done so much for so many people, do nothing but play poker.

i know this sounds condescending and macabre, but i love poker. play it on the side, quit "shuckin for the man" if that's how you feel and get another job, but leave poker in the "fun" category.

ps- to answer your question, you could do it at prima's 50NL no sweat if you were willing to 3 table 6 handed for 4 hours a day.

Right now I'm in college, so anything about $500 a week makes me "richer" than like 90% of everyone I know. This was easily doable at $50NL on party, however I'm thinking that $100NL would be the minimum you'd at least want to play in order to make a living on any site.

$100NL is beatable for $1k a week minimum if you put in enough table hours, which is a pretty good living compared to most people.
