the jackpot farmers are annoying!
Ok, played almost continuously this Laborday Weekend at the Commerce. Nearly every table had 1, usually 3 or more morons who'd proclaim "JACKPOT" anytime someone raised preflop (usually me, or the maniac) or when an ace would hit the board on the flop. God forbid 2 aces come out on the flop, cause the hand would die right there. Not to mention people talking over and over about what constitutes a jackpot, what the amount was this particular nanosecond, and so on.
Obviously it would be nice to get one, but I didn't realize that people were so damned obsessed over winning the stupid thing that they would yell at me for raising and reraising when I have the goddamn nut boat in my hands. Sheesh. |

Re: the jackpot farmers are annoying!
Just keep raising them. And people wonder why not one card room on the strip in Las Vegas has a bad beat jackpot. They don't want that type of clientelle. All they do is get the pot to minimum size to qualify and then check it down. God forbid someone tosses a bet out there, they'll berate and belittle that player. All that does is make the fish want to leave and go find somewhere else to play and cuts down on the amount the house is raking as well. All in all, I'd rather not play anywhere with a bad beat jackpot as it draws more nits and rocks than any other type of promotion.

Welcome to the land of jackpot chasin nits.
Ironically, stories like yours are much better reasons to NOT have jackpots than the reasons stated in books like poker essays (although those are still good reasons not to have them). al |

Yeah Photoc, I wish Commerce was more like the Las Vegas card rooms....
HAHAHAHA! Yeah, right... I do agree that "JACKPOT!" is kind of annoying. Play $20/40 and up. |

Re: the jackpot farmers are annoying!
Well, my introduction to poker was after my last trip to Vegas (New Years, Jan 2004) so I have yet to play in any vegas cardroom.
Of course I keep raising them! After losing to 2 6 offsuit so many times I want my Sklansky bucks! I've had 3 near misses with the jackpots. Each time there was a king on the board, counterfeiting someone's kicker so no jackpot. Frankly, I don't expect to win one, and don't rightly care. Its frosting on a slice of donkbet cake, really.... And after I post, I see there's a whole other thread on the subject. Heh, sorry to create superfluosity. |
