\"Debate\" Impressions, Ninety Minutes In
Well, after a VERY shaky opening where both gave good impressions of Grady Little post-Game 7, both settled down and each had their moments.
I think both reinforced the negative impressions about themselves more than anything else. Kerry did score some points, but a skillful Republican TV commercial director should have no problem splicing together Kerry's many "Saddam was a threat, the war was a mistake" comments into an effective flip-flop spot. Only real point for me is that I think Kerry is dead wrong about bilateral talks w/NKorea, if I'm understanding their positions correctly. FWIW, if Dub'd fire Ashcroft, Rummy, & Cheney tomorrow morning I think he'd win in a landslide and I'd prolly vote for him. Kerry isn't even Clinton-lite, he's Gore-lite. He's the last of this particular kind of candidate, just like how Dole was. Even if he wins, he's a one-termer. If it weren't for Iraq, Bush would easily win 350 electoral votes. Neither candidate offers anything to a gun-totin', beer drinkin', porn watchin', check raisin', middle-class, Libertarian sonofagun. Neither man is evil, we got ourselves a lesser of two lessers contest heyah. PREDICTION: Kerry will bump up a few points in the polls, but conversely I now think Bush is more likely to win the Electoral vote, if that's possible. Say 51-49. |
