I got confused because on espn they show the front of binions casino...

Harrah's now also owns the "Horseshoe" name (but not Binion's). There's an excellent chance that there will be a new casino built dead-center on the Strip called "The Horseshoe". When it's complete, it would be logical for Harrah's to move the WSOP there.

There is a post in News, Views, and Gossip called "Say Goodbye to Bally's" which talks about this.

correct.

last year was the FINAL year that ALL events were held at Binions Horseshoe.

This year it is almost entirely at the Rio (every event).
Better facilities there.
Horseshoe is just too small and old is my understanding.
Obviously there are more and more players involved and it is just too big an event to hold at a smaller facility like that I guess (I have never been,...I'm just going on what I've read here).

They will move it back to Binions for the final day (or maybe it's final 2 days) of the main-event just for tradition-sake.
But all of the events so far this year have been at the Rio. And the first few days of the main-event will be there too.

This is the first year they have held the various WSOP events at the Rio instead of the Horseshoe (and there is obviously no TV coverage of any of these events yet).

just as an addition to Dynastys post...I just got back from vegas/wsop a few days ago, and actually stayed in the old down town, for a chance to play at binions, the birthplace of the wsop, night in and night out.
I was so wholeheartedly dissapointed. With the sale of the WSOP to Harrahs, it really seems as though Binions, not the horshoe(they stress that point very hard when your playing there), has truly lost allot of its glamor. The large horseshoe has been removed from the side of the casino and replaced with...wait..nothing!? There is a huge hole in the side of the casino with wires hanging out. The inside is still old fashioned and has feeling about it that is truly hard to describe. You know what has happened here and the history of it, but there is just something wrong. All of the logos are removed, the place is a mess and unorganized, and the poker room was simply empty.
I went to play poker in one of, of not the, most famous poker rooms in the world, and the highest limit i could play?? 4-8!? or 1-2 NL?...I actually got to play 2-5NL for about an hour before that broke, and it took us 2 hours to get that game started. PLayed one of their late night tournemnts and came in 4th out of 65-70 people with rebuys(60 buyin w/ optional addon that everyone took) and made 300 dollars?? Myself and the others calculated the money and found well over 1000 dollars completly unaccounted for(yes thats after their %).
I was just dissapointed all around. The place still had some of its lore, but just seemed like a graveyard compared to the images of plast WSOPs burnt into my memory,(88', 81' 97' 77'78' and i guess even 2003'?) it really was sad. I would think that someone would realize that this is truly a las vegas landmark, and she be kept in its original state and preserved for people to visit in the future, and see where the game truly began.

The word I got was the final 36 of the main will be downtown, it's the 100th year anniversary of Las Vegas, and I figure it must have been in the deal that was made, since it's different owners now.

Not sure when Binion's jumped the shark as far as a poker room, but I think it might have been well before the last WSOP.

I've played there a couple of times in the last couple of months and the dealer's are well below average, it's a different crowd down there.

I was told that part of the contract that sold the WSOP to harrahs stipulated the WSOP final table must be played at Binions, but only this year. I heard that from this year on the WSOP main event will move from Harrahs to Harrahs every year..im not sure if this is true, but all in all the commercilization of this entire event has really taken away from the experience.
I was totally impressed by the even at the Rio, but I still miss the traditional WSOP....i guess with the growth of poker we have lost some things as well

Yeah, Binions only had poker for the months around the time of the world series.
