Seeking Bus Info From Brooklyn to AC: Borgata/Taj/Other
Pre-Planning For First Trip to AC
Lowest Limit Hold'em Are there any buses that go to the Borgata or TAJ from NYC? Even better would be any from Brooklyn - but I can get into Manhatten easily enough, especially Downtown or Chinatown. I found a bus that leaves from my neighborhood, Sunset Park (Brooklyn Chinatown), but it goes to Tropicana. There may be one that goes to The Sands also. Is the Trop or Sands good for poker? All the bus operations I found out about so far (Trop/Foxwoods/Mohegan) give you $25-$50 in freeplay money usable at the casino they take you to, so I might as well take advantage of that. Also, does anyone have any experience with not going back on your regularly scheduled bus and taking a later one? The bus operators I talked to said this is fine, but it is subject to seat availability and they couldn't or wouldn't give me a feel for how likely that is. Is there usually at least one open seat on any returning bus? The buses seem to allow for about 6-8 hours of play before returning. That might be fine, but the option to stay longer is nice if I wouldn't wind up getting stuck. |

just go to port authority and take a grey hound bus from gate 79 they run every half hour. The cost is $29 and you get $15 or so back from whatever casino they dump you off at. Once you are there just make your way out onto pacific ave and take the Jitney to whatever casino you want to play at.

Oh cool. Funny - I didn't think of regular old Greyhound. I know there are a lot of special buses that work with the casinos. Greyhound would allow more flexibility as I wouldn't be tied to one bus or one casino. The only good thing about the special buses is that they cost about $25 but they give you back about $50. and if I could catch one from Chinatown, it would be closer.

Academy also leaves from Port Authority. You can go back whenever you want, there is a bus at one casino every half an hour (they will give you a schedule). Their customer service is not good however.
There are no buses that go to Borgata, so you will have to take a cab or jitney (the #2, this is what I do) to the Borgata. You will get a $15-$20 bonus at the casino that you go to. Sometimes Academy will go to two casinos. Try to go to one that gives you cash instead of making you play it in a slot machine. |

I really wouldn't recommend Academy. Their buses are more cramped than Greyhound's, and they will sometimes abandon you in AC without explanation if a bus fills up at an earlier casino. I switched to Greyhound, and I have been kicking myself for not making the switch years ago.

Does Greyhound also offer the cash back bonus from the casinos? For some reason I thought they did not.

Does the casino of arrival hand out coupons to all arriving bus passengers, regardless of the line or is each coupon deal negotiated in advance? Also, if you buy a 7 day advance round trip ticket on Greyhound (which is cheaper) is it going to cost extra if you want to change your return time? |
