This article reminds me of the two reasons I don't decry major leaguers' high salaries:
1) Supply and demand. There are very few human beings who can do what a major league baseball player does, day in and day out. If fans pack the stands to see them, and the team makes money, why shouldn't the players get a bit portion of the profits? 2) It's a huge risk/reward career. Most professional players are not the ones that make millions a year, but rather they're the ones in this article, that make $1,000/mo for a few months. Most will fade out and not have anything to show for their baseball careers, while a select few will make the bigs. Why shouldn't they get paid when they finally do make it through? |
