Whiskey/Gin problem.... (and kinda NSFW pics to help)
Seriously! I like Jack and Cokes sometimes, and when I'm already drunk I'll down just about anything. But I don't like starting off by taking shots of jack or other hard alcohols besides vodka. Is it a matter of aquiring the taste? Or is there a drink similar to jack n coke that I can enjoy?

Gin and tonic. Refreshing is the word that comes to mind. It's what I start out with.

It's an aquired taste. You're probably too young. You'll eventually appreciate a good Scotch, Bourbon etc.

If you want to do shots or drink hard alcohol straight, I acquired the taste by beginning with Southern Comfort back in my mid-teens. I think the taste would be a match if you like Jack and coke when drunk.
If you just want hard alcohol, and are not concerned with shots or straight, I always suggest long island iced teas made the good way. 1 pt tequila 1 pt rum 1 pt gin 1 pt triple sec 1 pt vodka fill rest of pint glass with an equal mixture of sweet n' sour and coca cola 1 pt= 1 shot, roughly 1 to 1 1/2 oz ENJOY!

gin and tonic is good in all situations. I like crown and coke, I hate all rum. Whisky sour is a good choice

Big fan of gin and tonic.
I find the sweetness of most mixed drinks gets cloying after a while, though, even gin and tonic, which is a very clean tasting drink. I wish I could get a non-sugary tonic that wasn't diet, as diet tonic is sickening. Maybe I should just try it with club soda or something some time.
