Tracking software

I had been curious to try some of the third party tracking software and after posting a few questions here I took the plunge. Well today I get a message from PP admin that I was using third party software in violation of PP policy. I was given a warning and told next time my account would be frozen. Anyone else rec'd such a message? How did they capture this information? I don't think it was a screenshot so my guess was either monitoring my traffic or looking at cookies, both of which I am not thrilled about. I could care less about the the tracking software as its advantage seemed to be nill for me but did offer some interesting information. I am just not crazy about any vendor software accessing my hard drive if this is where they are getting the information?
