Buying Cell Phone off EBAY

Hello all,

I am in dire need for a new phone, but I am still under contract with Cingular and can only upgrade for full cost. So I am looking at EBAY for some phones. Anyone have any useful info on this? I have the SIM card from my phone and from what I understand, as long as I buy an unlocked phone that is Cingular compatible I will be fine. Is that right?

Make sure it's a GSM phone compatible on Cingular's network and that it's 'unlocked'. I think most phones you're going to search for are ok though.

It doesn't have to be unlocked to work. It can either be a cingular compatible phone or it can be unlocked to work on any network. You don't need both.

Also, you can probably get away with buying a phone for another network and then getting an unlock code off ebay. I did this with a Nokia I had.
