Okay.

Why 42" to be exact?

Recall that I know nothing about TV's or monitors or anything, for that matter.

because 30 32 and 37 are weak. 42 is a pretty standard size. 27 will be a joke for hd content unless you're a foot away from the screen. you'll be missing out on all the details that hd offers and missing the whole immersive aspect of it.
