Thoughts on New Stars 20% Structure
It basically seems to reward more marginal finishes with commisurately marginal rewards. So "in the money" means a hell of a lot less than it used to.
However, it does seem like the top priezs don't suffer too much, its more of a flatening of the marginal finishes. The point seems to be to get more people in the money and thus encourage more repeat players, esp. those who would not otherwise make the money, so maybe it will help some of the stronger players in that regard. Finally, I don't really like the fact that there are more payput "levels" that reaquire tournaments to go hand for hand more often. Slows the game. |

the top placecs defintely suffer.
in the 800-1000 person range, old payout schedule gives 25% of the pool to first. in the new on it gives 20%. That's a pretty big drop. |

Re: Thoughts on New Stars 20% Structure
This is just a thought but it seems like it would improve your total return on investment because of the increase of number of money finishes, yet with the top prizes being so similar it would not hurt your total return too much for your top three finishes. Just a thought of the top of my head. I have not done any calculations to prove or disprove it.

maybe it is a big difference. I did not even know the pay schedule. It is better for pokerstars becuase more people play and the lesser players go broke slower.

Re: Thoughts on New Stars 20% Structure
Generally speaking, I don't care for flat payout structures unless it's a REALLY big buy in (like WSOP ME, where many people win their way in on satelites and a $13K cash constitutes a big payday).
For me personally, after investing $30 and 3-4 hours, winning $50 slightly ITM or not cashing is essentially the same. Good MTTers aim for the final table and top finishes, so this definitely hurts the big payday those times we're fortunate enough to get it. |

Re: Thoughts on New Stars 20% Structure
Are we stuck with this now? I noticed it in my "big" tournaments yesterday (11's). Tonight I decided to drink some (big surprise) so I'm mucking about in the micros... if I manage to beat ~1100 ppl in the $1 I'm currently doing best in I'll win a total of $214... wtf? Those prizes were in the $280+ range with the old structure.
It personally sucks because I just got over (2 months ago) being a weak-tight ahole who never had a chance to get on the final table... add to that the fact that I've been on a heater lately and have had a half-dozen final tables in the past month, with two wins and one second. dammit. Mr. Jones: As a micro player, I donut like it. donut like it at all. |
