Default BR to comfortably play the 25k guaranteed on Stars?

How much should I have in my bankroll (dedicated to SNG's and MTT's) before I can comfortably play the $11 rebuys 25k guaranteed on Stars?

I know this answer will depend on the poster's level of risk taking, but I would appreciate any general answer, perhaps an upper and lower bound, where upper is obviously the sky.

Also assume that I am a good MTT player (have cashed in many tournaments and gone deep in $11 and $27 tourneys), but not to the level of say Soss, MLG, or CSC.

I think of it as a $70 tourney and I don't play it anywhere nearly as loosely as some others on this forum. Keep in mind that this tourney is a monster, and that you can cash many many times without ever hitting the top spots where the majority of a good tourney player's EV is derived. Not sure what that translates to in terms of BR requirement but I would say 30+ buy ins would be required if you were planning on playing every night.

Could I please get answers in terms of dollars as opposed to buyins? When you say 70 buyins I don't know what that means, because you could be investing 31 and count that as 3 buyins or 71 and count that as just one buyin.

He said he plays it as a $70 tourney. Therefore his suggestion of 30 buyins would be $2100.

Do you play this tight aggro before the rebuy period? If you do then treat it as a $50 buyin and you are looking for $1500. No one else can give you a buyin amount without knowing how much you are going to place the avg buyin + addon at. Gavin for instance may play this as a $100 tourney which makes his BR around $3000. It is a player dependent number and Double Eagle gave you the formula to figure it out for you personally.

Keep in mind these are [b]minimums[b] as well and variance could still easily eat these up.

Point taken.

And I am of the variety of playing tight and solid during the rebuy period, using the rebuy and the addon. $30 variety.

And when he said 70 buyins, I wasn't sure if he meant (70 x 11) or (70 times however much you spend a tourney). That solves things somewhat.

$30 should be the minimum investment, yo.

It is perfectly fine to play it as a $20+1 Freezeout with an optional $10 addon. Just keep in mind that many times you will not make it out of the 1st hour. Therefore you are likely looking at most at making it out of the 1st hour 80% of the time. Avg buyin would be $28 then. This is assuming that you NEVER rebuy if you get knocked out. I think it very foolish to play with the first T1500 and then rebuy if you get knocked out. Simply because if you double after an instant rebuy you are at T6000 rather than T1500 for only $10 more, essentially getting T3000 for your extra $10. So the VERY VERY minimum you could have would be $28 * 30 = $840. Playing like this is very -EV. I would budget $51 for each tourney (Buy in + 3 rebuys + addon) and rebuy immediately, then if you lose chips rebuy twice and cut yourself off there. Assuming now that you will make it to the 2nd hour 90% of the time that would put your avg buyin at $50. $50 * 30 = $1500 minimum BR. Then you could extrapolate further with this by saying you will only use the second 2 rebuys 60% of the time, so... $20 * .60 = $12. So $21 + $12 + $9 = $42 * 30 = $1260 That would be my suggestion for longterm play of this tourney.

Well written. But $1260 seems low.
