Think strategy, and the confirmation hearings.
My guess is, she'll withdraw -- and was meant to.

It's funny.

Cheney headed the search for VP's and Mier's headed the search for Justices.

I hope so...But it is still a plain lie to say that she was the best he could find...I don't appreciate that.

I knew the former; is the latter really true? REALLY?

A CNN talking head said it.

ok, i ll google...

"Ironically, Ms. Miers headed the White House search committee for Supreme Court nominees and ended up being the nominee. It's reminiscent of how Dick Cheney was asked by presidential nominee George Bush to seek out a suitable vice-presidential candidate and ended being chosen himself."

linky

"Much as he did when he chose Dick Cheney as his vice president during the 2000 campaign, Bush tapped the head of his search committee -- in this case, Miers, a longtime loyalist -- as the candidate to succeed O'Connor, who is retiring."

Please explain this gameplan to me. I've never heard it. I find it very unlikely, but maybe you could change my mind with more explaining.

I like the skit on Letterman last night. "The best he could find ... within 25 feet of the oval office"
