With the Chisox losing again today they are 7 back in the central with 6 games left against the white sox. Minnesota still has 9 left with them aswell- the white dox have a tough schedule.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's still 9 games in the loss column. Plus the tribe hasn't been able to beat the Sox all year.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's not saying much. The Indians started off the season terribly and didn't beat any teams. Their hitting was terrible and they are a totally different team than they were in the beginning of the season. On the other hand, an arguement could be made the the White Sox have declined or gotten worse, too.

[/ QUOTE ]

Post-allstar break, the Sox swept the Indians in 4 games in Cleveland. The Sox are experiencing their first prolonged slump of the season -- all teams go through it. It doesn't mean they're choking or faltering. That's baseball -- it's a long season. They'll get the bats going again.

[/ QUOTE ]

Even at the time the White Sox swept the Tribe in July, the Indians were not doing very good. At the end of the W Sox/Indians series, the Indians were 2 games over .500, and now they are 14 games over. IMO, the Indians have greatly improved and the White Sox, especially with the loss of Podsednik the last week or two, have declined.

[/ QUOTE ]

By virtue of their records alone, you would be correct. Don't get me wrong, I think the Indians will be a force to be reckoned with -- in the wild card. The division is over. The Sox will be fine. Pods will be back soon, and the pitching is still solid.

I'm not saying that the tirbe are going to win for sure, but with the way the white sox are playing right now- losing 1-0 ballgames, not getting their offense going- is exactly how the tribe started out their year. The sox have been on cruise control for most of the season without any pressure- then a few injuries hit, the indians get hot- with a fairly inexperienced manager, its not panic time, but it would be a good time to see them start to turn it around.

[/ QUOTE ]

Before losing 7 in a row last week the Sox had no prolonged losing streaks all year long. Again -- all teams go through this. I'm just glad they're going through it in August, and not September. They'll get it back on track and pick up where they left off. I'm really not worried.

Agreed. I agree that it's a long shot for the Tribe to take the division, especially with the Twinkies lurking two games behind. The WC is much, much more realistic. In order for the division to get close, the Indians would have to go 6-0 or 5-1 in their final 6 games against the Chi Sox.

I've been biting my tongue all this time, listening to the Yankees fans talking like the wild card was going to be thiers. The tribe is every bit as hot right now. Either way you cut it, this is going to be a very fun September.

The Sox have been winning an extraordinary number of 1-run ballgames and games in which they didn't score many runs. A good part of that has been their pitching, but they've also been a little lucky (check out their run differential for more evidence of that). They're starting to come back to earth now but they're probably far enough ahead that they should still win the division.

Sounds like something similar to Jose Mesa who I termed Mr. Excitement. Wickman's stats seem decent though. Long way to go but the Tribe is pretty well balanced. Lotsa fun.

I am with you there. He certainly DID balk with a guy on third in the 9th last night. Lou had every right to throw a fit. But in true Wick style, he got the final out and the save.

Read on Cleveland.com that he increased the amount of his warm-up pitches because he was having trouble throwing strikes to the first batter.
