Default Q\'s about San Diego. Considering a move there.

Been living in Honolulu for the past several years and planning a move back to the mainland in the next year or two. The cost of living is too high here to retire (more on that later), too far from family, and never intended to live here forever anyway. I want to stay on the west coast, but other than that, I am flexible.

Spoiled by the weather here I want to find someplace with a nice climate, so the pacific northwest where I grew up is out.

In good shape financially. Wife will work to provide insurance and pay some bills. I want to play poker to provide a little ancillary income (but ccould retire without it so no pressure).

So one: are there good B&M games around there?

And two: I know the cost of living is not cheap there either. What is the price range for a nice home...4 bedroom, 3000 square feet, in upper middle class neighboorhood?

Any other cities with good climate, and gotta have POKER!

lots of rooms but they mostly spread low limit, always good games though.

San Diego real estate is fu*king ridiculous right now. The bad side is that no one can move here unless they are rich or want to sell their souls to a bank. The good side is now I am rich.

There is plenty of poker in SD, unless you want super high stakes you can always find good action, and if you require super high stakes, LA is pretty damn close.

How bad is it apartment wise? I am planning on moving out there in January. Hopefully working in some sort of research environment.

Lots of apartment options, San Diego is a big area. As someone who owns houses and rents houses I can tell you that the rental prices have not nearly come close to catching up with the purchase prices. I have a 4 bedroom/3 bath house, 2400 square feet, pool and spa, worth about 750. The rent on it however is only $2200 a month. Which makes buying to rent in SD not such a good idea right now, but renting is pretty cool considering what you can afford.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I'll be looking at other areas. The weather just isn't worth that much to me. Part of the retirement plan involves selling my house here and paying cash for a house there, with $$$ left over to invest. I don't want to spend over $500,000.
