Default Salvation sans Jesus

A while back someone posted a comment here asking if Old Testament figures (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc.) will be saved and if so how, because Christians claim that salvation only comes through faith in Christ and the patriarchs did not know Jesus. I made a statement that they would be saved because they believed in the promises of God that had their ultimate fulfillment in Jesus. DS did not buy it and actually said my response sickened him.

J.I. Packer has written a brief article that addresses this issue as well. Hopefully his attempt will not be as sickening.

Here it is.

Um well, when Jesus was crucified the dead walked, and were joined to him, yada ya. In this way, the Bible jumps through a huge loophole.
