Default What We Democrats Need To Do

I didn't come up with this idea- it's a combination of what I've read on all the blogs I keep up with. So, don't go calling me a plagiarist.

We don't need to be worrying about who we nominate, and whether they can be labelled as a liberal or not, because they will ALL be labelled liberal. All of them. If McCain were running as a Dem against Bush, he would be labelled a liberal. Liberal has become a dirty word associated with failed economic policies that no one in the Democratic Party even supports. 12% more people now call themselves conservatives than call themselves liberal. Yet when it comes to real issues, people agree more with the Democrats on most. We need to embrace the term liberal because it is with us to stay. And we need to frame the term. Redefine it. Show America what it really means.

Then we won't be starting off every race 12 points behind.

Take this for example:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/...in651425.shtml

[ QUOTE ]
First, he compared Mongiardo's appearance to one of Saddam Hussein's sons. Then he made an unsubstantiated claim that opposition staffers beat his wife "black and blue" at a political picnic.

Earlier this month, Bunning backed out of a televised debate with Mongiardo, giving the relatively unknown Democrat 30 minutes of air time. Bunning joined another debate via a satellite hookup from Washington, where he read his opening and closing statements from a teleprompter. An executive of the TV station that broadcast the debate called Bunning's use of a teleprompter "despicable," according to the Washington Post.

Bunning has also begun traveling with a state trooper, telling one Kentucky TV station that, "There may be strangers among us," according to the Post. He has attributed his need for protection to the same classified intelligence that prompted Sen. Mark Dayton, D-Minn., to close his D.C. office.

Most recently, Bunning admitted he wasn't aware that a group of Army reservists had refused a convoy mission in Iraq, saying he watches only Fox News for information and hasn't read a newspaper in six weeks.

"Bunning has run one of the least impressive campaigns for an incumbent in the country this year," said Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia.

[/ QUOTE ]

He won. How? "Liberal liberal liberal."

That's the only problem we need to worry about.

Clinton didn't have a problem overcoming the label. He knew what needed to be done to win his elections and did it.

There is a fundamental problem with the democratic party(as a whole) that they are unwilling to admit. It kinda reminds me of an addict who doesn't think he has the problem which is painfully obvious to everyone else.
I'm not going to waste my time telling you what that problem is because you would just deny it.

Just a thought on McCain.

If McCain were a presidential candidate for either party, I suspect he would be able to win. McCains problem is he would never win a nomination from either party.

[/ QUOTE ]I don't think Clinton would have won without Perot taking a fourth of the vote. Re-election is a different matter entirely because he'd had the bully pulpit for 4 years and was able to sink Dole with money very early.

Plus, he didn't [censored] the country up.

Dole was a lousy candiate, too. He had character, but it takes more than character to win an election, despite what some Republicans thought then.

The democrats need to do one of two things with regard to the Presidency: Find a candidate that appeals strongly to the minority, like Bill Clinton, or find one that has some 'testicular fortitude', Hillary Clinton will do fine here.

Default What The Democrats Need To Do

What the Democrats need to do is get with the times.

The welfare state has long been discredited, along with a lot of the Democrats' other cherished ideals and programs that simply don't work in the real world. Most people want to own a home, pay less taxes, and be left alone to build their own lives with a minimum of interference and hindrance from the government.

Lose the socialism and get back to real liberalism: that's what the Democrats need to do--or slowly go extinct.

In short, it's called "get some common sense".

Once more, I will say liberals are not liberal.

Good post MMMMMMM.

[/ QUOTE ]If you think that's what we did with our 8 years in the White House, you are far removed from reality.

Cutting taxes is great. I wish we never had to pay taxes. However, there's this pesky thing called a record deficit that Bush needs to deal with somehow.

Name a specific program that Democrats are pushing which has been discredited.

I'll check back tommorrow afternoon.
