It's difficult to get away from your AK TPTK here but you should, being called with a holding K8, K2 or 82 is likely in a 20$ game.

[/ QUOTE ]

People overplaying worse Ks or pushing a flush draw are even more likely. 4 hands in, if I've never played with this opponent before, I'm not folding this in an online $20+2.

Hero (t800)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to t60</font>, MP1 calls t60, <font color="#666666">5 folds</font>, BB calls t45.

BB checks, Hero bets 125, MP1 raises all-in, Hero calls.

It was the 4th hand of the tournament. I'm pondering the idea of making these loose calls on Level 1 -- but not 2 or 3 with a lot of players still in -- to take advantage of the early game fish factor.

By making this play am I just effectively being a fish and swimming Logic River upstream right there with them? Or have I been losing money by folding in this situation on Level 1?

I think that the buy-in price is the biggest factor but I could just be on crack and in dire need of intervention and Jebus.

I'd call this in the 20s about every time. If he has a set, then well he got me. Its going to be a flush draw here most of the time IMO so call and hope he doesn't have Kxs for the 3 extra outs.

I call this pretty much every time and expect to see a K that I have outkicked or a flush draw at least 65% of the time.

See, this is why I wanted this forum to focus on postflop play. There are two situations when you should fold here at any limit: if your Internet connection dies, or if you click the wrong button.

Even in the $200's you'll be shown KQ or AQs more than enough times to autocall.

You generally avoid this call?

You do know this is how aggressive monkeys play their marginal hands (KJ, KT, draws, etc) and not their monsters, don't you?

I say two pair is the only thing I wouldn't be very surprised to see that beats you here. Of course, if he's calling you pre-flop with K8 or K2 or 82 you'll get his money on a lot of other flops where he's screwed.

Case in point I pick up KK (EP) in first level of a Stars 25 turbo this morning, board is J-7-3 rainbow. Raise it up to 80 (blinds 10/20), called 4 ways. Check into the field, MP pots it ~300, CO goes all in, button calls all in; MP joins the party after I fold.

MP shows Q7o
CO shows AJs
Button shows J10o

I make the call in a heartbeat with a draw on the board, but I have to think it's +EV to get involved even on drawless boards in the low buyins.

If you don't want to put all your chips in with that flop then don't play the hand to begin with!

In a $22 S+G this isn't a marginal call. Folding here is terrible, you will be ahead way more often than behind.
