Default is it rude to buy in for $300 in a 4-8 game?

Its poker ... who cares what other people think just buy-in for what you want.

I do think 300 is a little much but whatever you want to do works for me.

In my experience people who over buy always end up being tools. That's usually like 400-500 in a 3/6, though...

It doesn't matter but I think anywhere from 25-50BB's is a good buyin for a limit game.
You become a tool when you buyin for like 100-200BB's.

Mind u this experience is mostly @ a limit 3/6 game in a fairly new casino.

The casino I play at, has a rule that once the action is down to two players, there are no limits on raises. I have seen 3-400 pots b/c of this @ 3/6. So my reaction is to always have the most money @ the table. For 3/6 I buy in for 100 white 100 in red and i carry a couple of black chips. There are a few advantages to this.

The first obvious one is that I can take alot of chips in a heads up pot against a second best hand ( happens rarely but why not be ready when it does) and why have the money out of play if you have a jackpot opportunity.

Second people fear me more when i have been sitting there a while b/c they think i bought in for 100 like everyone else seems to do. Psychologically i like to have a big stack even at limit. I can take some losses and not feel like i have to rebuy or play tighter or get lucky.

Third, people who do not know me think i play reckless and can afford to when i have cards to play aggresive with that do not turn into winners. I can play the part of a loose rich tourist to the players who have not lost to me in the past.

And last, the regulars at the the casino are very sure that I am a strong player not only b/c I win but b/c I always have the most chips, rarely rebuy, and regularly beat them.

So my answer is that no one pays too much attention, and a lot of time when they do it still works to my advantage. And never has anyone said a word about what i bring to the table. Hell if u r concerned buy an odd amount and play like u just came from another table that u cleaned out.

The only time its rude is when you have to buy from the dealer and slow the game down.
