monitor\'s for 4-tableing
I am on a 17" Mac Powerbook, and want to get a stand-alone flat panel, so I can four-table (party right now) on IT, and hopefully have pTracker up on the laptop itself. What size / monitor resolutions do I need for this?
Thanks, doc |

Re: monitor\'s for 4-tableing
monitor size doesn't matter. you have to be able to use 1600x1200 resolution. each poker window is generally 800x600.
I'd be surprised if your mac doesn't support this already. The thing is, even with a 21" monitor, most people do not like 1600x1200 resolution. All text appears smaller, but more crisp. in windows, you can increase the dpi of your fonts, but I am not sure how to do this on a mac. even if this is done, it doesn't always work on all software though, so you might still be looking at ultra small fonts and graphics. |

Re: monitor\'s for 4-tableing
and actually, I think one of hte only LCD montiors to support 1600x1200 is the dell fp2100. most stop at 1280x1024
you will also need to check with apple to see if your powerbook can span monitors, most laptops show the same thing on both screens, or will show the screen on one or the other. |

Re: monitor\'s for 4-tableing
it means that the casino runs at 800x600 resolution. to get 4 on a screen you need it twice as much in both directions or 1600x1200. if you dont have enough, there will be overlap. you dont have enough.

The Syncmaster 213T is the absolute nuts (21.3 inch flat panel) but costs 1k.
If you have the money and want the best, there are no other options. |

I read this and glanced down at the bottom right corner of the flat-panel I'm currently using in my office and lo and behold, I have a SyncMaster 213T! It's made by Samsung in case anyone was wondering, and it does run very crisp at 16x12. I've only been using it for a week or so, and I'm going to switching to a couple of Dell's FP2100's in a couple weeks. I've heard those are better, but haven't used them myself. I guess we'll see... Re: monitor\'s for 4-tableing
Resolution and monitor size both count. The bigger the better. I'm using two SyncMaster 191TPlus' for playing normally two tables at once, sometimes up to four. If I play four more often I will buy two more 191Ts.
Now, in order to do this you need a video card that supports multiple monitors (mine supports four). But I have a full sized pc. For a Mac notebook I don't know if you can find such a video card. It's worth looking into. If not, consider buying a windows based computer and four monitors. If you are playing a lot of poker and are winning, then it's worth the investment. It will save a lot of wear and tear on your eyes. If you live in a limited space, like a college dorm, then you'll have to make do with the one monitor. Get the biggest one you can afford. I think most of them will support the resolution you need to fit four tables. The Samsung SyncMasters are very nice monitors. |

Re: monitor\'s for 4-tableing
The built in LCD only does 1440*990. External monitors support up to 2048x1536. You should be able to use any of the 20+inch dvi lcds monitors out there (the one exception is the apple 20 inch which is 16:10 and therefore just a little bit too short). You can also dual monitor where you use the external LCD and the laptops LCD. If you are using virtual pc I have no idea how multiple monitors work.
