Recently I tried 300NL live. It was nuts. I held JJ and raised to 15 (1/2 blinds) and got reraised to 45. I folded and a guy called. Guy who raised had AQo and dude who called had J10o. Seemed insane to me.

Another hand this guy raised a 857r board 200 dollars. Dude behind him went all in for 320. First guy folded. A really good player would get real paid if this was how people played everywhere, I think.

a friend of mine is doing a similiar thing now at the LA cardrooms, but playing 2/3$ NL, which is a 100 buyin game, instead of 100 + 1/2 blinds. Hes been successfull for the past 3 months now, including one bad swing hovering around 2k. He says he avgs about $300/night, and he does play extended sessions... so i think its possible at 1/2 as well

. If this is a very loose ( which almost all are) 100 0r 200 max game u can expect to make 20 dollars an hour max with less varience then most 10-20 limit players.

Really? $20/hour? Admittedly I don’t have a huge amount of experience at 1-2 but I would guess the upper range would be maybe half that. This is just such a small game that your expenses (rake, gas, tips, etc.) really cut into the profits. If you have a 5k bankroll, start playing the next level up, 2-5 or whatever.

This is obvious but I’ll toss it in anyway. Even if you do manage $15/hour, you’re going to have to play an awful lot of hours to make 1k a week

Pretty typical for 1/2 NL live. The secret to making the transition is getting rid of the 3x BB raise preflop mindset. In your first example, the raises wouldn't be too far out of wack for a 10/20 limit game.
