Need your help
Hi All,
Here's the situation... A couple of friends have started a weekly poker night that consists of 2 tournaments a night. There are usually only 5 or six of us and the starting chip count is 2000. The blinds start at 25/50 and go up every 20 min to 50/100, 75/150, 200/400, 300/600. I have been trying to apply all that I have learned here (Thanx everyone!) but haven't exactly been ripping up the table. 2 of the guys are complete maniacs, 1 especially, who throws out phrases like 'NOW we're playing Cards!' when his 84o makes the straight. We've only played 5 nights but with $50 a tourny, I've spent $500 and have barely broke even... I guess my question is this: With regards to the Aleomagus Guide, how should I be adjusting my play due to the differance in attendace, chip count, and blind structure? Thanx in advance! django |

Re: Need your help
Um, thanx...
If I could figure it out on my own, I probably wouldn't be posting... And I thought that was the point of forums. Thanx for your reply, though. django |

Re: Need your help
So this is like a short handed ultra turbo. You can't follow Aleo's guide to the tee with only 5 people to start with. And with blinds going up every 5-8 hands you will get blinded down very very quicly if you're just going to sit there and wait for AA-QQ. You must loosen up A LOT. K9o is a GOOD hand in this game.

Re: Need your help
Sorry, I missed 2 of the blind levels in my post. They are as follows:
25/50,50/100,75/150,100/200,150/300,200/400,300/600, going up every 20 minutes. I'm sure that changes things... |

Re: Need your help
No it doesn't, you still won't win sitting and waiting for premium hands. Think of them really as a "premium"... a bonus. Drawing hands, suited hands, A7+, K7+ are all good to play in this type of a game.

Re: Need your help
So what standard is used to decide if a game is "fast" or not ?
I play tournies with 3K chips blinds start at 25-50 and double every 30 minutes. I assume that waiting for a premium hand is futile here and that k-8 plays ? Really though is there a standard ? I would assume that it could be deduced by figuring out how long a dead man would survive. If you did nothing but fold in my game and the rate was 30 hands an hour you would get 15 hands/level, 8 players at these tables so 2 blinds posted per level. So im my tourney. 3,000 chips 150 300 600 1200 2400 You would be broke in about 2.25 hours. You would see about 60 hands.. WOW that is fast, I am playin way to tight there ! The doubling blind structure makes the blinds go from meaningless to severe in a few seconds. I also assume that your home game has it's share of maniacs and calling stations. You need to adjust to that, somehow. It can be hard to adjust to. -- tjh |
