Default Is the absurd rake beatable at my local casino\'s 1-2 NL?

The rake is a half hour time charge of $6. So it's $12 an hour to play 1-2 NL (plus $1 raked for the bad beat jackpot and $1 tip if I win a big pot.)

The games are usually full of ace wonders and maybe 1 or 2 old rocks. I made $350 in my first outing after six hours of play and my second visit I dropped $150 in about four hours.

I figure that due to the rake I have to win $14 an hour just to break even. The blinds are 1-2 and with a half hour time charge that means I have to win the blinds twice in half an hour. Half hour of casino poker = about 20 hands (with shuffler machines.)

So on an average I have to win the blinds twice in 20 hands or once in ten hands.

Is this possible to beat long term despite the abysmal play of my opponents? By abysmal, I mean someone open raising under the gun to $20 and getting four cold callers, people calling off their whole stack to a huge overbet at the pot with OESD and non nut flush draws.

What is a typical NL expectation in terms of BB/100?

I have been strictly a limit player for over a year and so I do not know the answer to this basic fundamental question.

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

That's a terrible rake, that comes out to like 20BB/100 hands that they take. With absolutely abysmal play from your opponents like you describe it would be possible to beat it, but if they have the slightest idea what they're doing it would be almost impossible longterm. I don't know how that game can stay alive, that rake is highway robbery. One way or the other, I wouldn't recommend playing in that game both because you should be morally outraged at the robbery that they're committing and because if you are able to show a positive expectation it wouldn't be enough to be worth your trouble.

Thanks dauler,

Do you know what a typical time charge for a 1-2 NL casino game would be in Vegas or somewhere else?

I would think that most 1/2 games don't have a time charge.

Also, a BBJ for NL is pretty retarded as well.

Sure, it sucks. But it is no worse than typical
rake for small stakes limit play.

That's why the time charge, many pots would not rake
(unlike limit).

The game should be beatable, same as small limit.

You won't get rich unless the opps are REALLY bad
though.
