Default A3 Suited on Botton...Opinions needed

Party...I don't have many reads on the players, but table seems typical.

I get A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the button.

Pre Flop: UTG calls, MP2 calls, I call, SB and BB complete.

Flop: T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

UTG checks, MP 2 bets, I raise (?), SB, BB, UTG fold, and MP2 calls.

Turn: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

MP2 checks, I take my free card

River: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

I bet, MP calls (TJo) and MHIG

Is the raise on the flop typical? I usually fold in this situation, especially with no back door flush opportunity (and MP could be on straigt draw)? If MP2 would have raised the Flop, I would have folded.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts. This type of hand comes up often and would like to know if raising the flop is a better play.

Is the raise on the flop typical?

No. You will rarely be ahead and don't have the odds to draw. Folding is typical.

This is a clear flop fold.

Peace,

I thought I read somewhere that this was acceptable because this play increased your chance of winning the pot. However, I clearly see that there are no odds for this type of play.

I didn't think this was correct...that is why I posted. Also, I assume that it is correct to fold even if you do have a back door flush draw.

Swap one of the flop cards to a diamond and I think you have a call on the flop because of the addition of the backdoor flush to your backdoor straight and bottom pair/not-necessarily-clean overcard kicker.

This is not a horrible play...however, you need to be certain that you will get the free card.

Muck the A3 before the flop.

Am I losing anything by just folding this preflop with only two limpers, one of which is under the gun?

I understand it's the button, but if an ace flops I'm taking the chance that I'm the only ace, and the pot is not large enough multiway action to feel great about chasing a medium sized pot on a flush draw/runner runner. Also, there'll be enough small stakes tables where button bets are not going to buy the pot, and get called down by enough hands that are either better or will easily become better...

So, am I losing much by just folding this hand PF?

This is bad advice. With two limpers, play A3s on the button. No doubt.

I also think your flop raise is bad. The pot is way too small to make this play.

Do I like an ace when it flops? If an EP player bets? Sounds like an easy way to be second best. 2 limpers isn't enough to warrant calling in hopes of a flush draw flop, either. Another reason to fold: if it's a loose passive game where button bets aren't going to buy the pot.

I dont think you are losing anything at all. I want at least 3 or 4 limpers to me before Im playing this preflop.
