How many hands do you play every week?
I hope this poll has not been created before.
I don't think I play enough and just want to see how others are doing. What is the minimum number of hands to successfully progress? Any thoughts? |

Re: How many hands do you play every week?
I tried to play 500 hands a day when I wasn't working. Now that I'm working, I'm down to 150-200 per day. So I guess a rough estimate now is about 1000/week.

Re: How many hands do you play every week?
During the summer I was playing about 500-600 a day, but now that school is on and I'm also working on grad school apps, I barely have time to get in some on the weekends.

[/ QUOTE ] Your poll is confusing because it asks a question different from the one your subject asks. Fortunately, my answer for both is the same. I'm probably playing 1-100 hands a week at this point. And that's all you need to successfully progress. Within any span of 100 hands, there are probably 5-10 where you made a substantial error and 15-20 where you could have taken a different line and potentially have been more profitable (based on table conditions, player specific reads, and those sorts of things). If you studied these 20-30 hands carefully every week, you'll be a solid player in 3 months, if not a little sooner. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with Aaron -- I think quality of analysis is more important than quantity of hands when you're trying to improve. I definitely feel that I'm improving more when I'm reading books, thinking about posts on this forum or reviewing a session than I do making decisions at the table. |

It's actually about 230 hands/week, 918 total in the month of October. It sure seems like a lot less than that - I guess those longer sessions I played are tipping the scales a bit more than I thought. (I don't count MLL hands towards this total.) But I still stand by my claim that 100 hands/week should give you enough to think about to become a very good player. I didn't even mention the things you can learn from studying how your villains are playing their hands. What I mean is that you can learn a lot by seeing what hands villains show down and replay the hands *KNOWING* what they have. You can gain a lot of insight into how they think (because most of them *DO* think). |

Re: How many hands do you play every week?
Usually only 5000-6000 a week but the last 3 days I've played ~3000/day trying to get out of this rut im in.
