why would you even think about calling here? you're only getting 1.4:1 and there is a player still to act after you. i'm assuming that you're the sb, correct?

use your bigstack to push the table around (be the aggressor), not to call pushes getting poor odds

I probably wouldn't. You aren't even going to be performing all that great against a random hand, and he's not likely to be raising with a random hand. If he's quite loose this might be marginally +chip EV, but I think it will have a negative impact on your image that offsets anything you get from that. EDIT: You're not the BB? I like it even less, then.

This was a hand a saw while railtarding a friend. He pushed UTG+1 with A7 and I told his opponent after he called that it was a poor call but the whole table said that they call in that spot.

They either aren't very good or are trying to encourage the big stack to call so that 1) they get closer to the money and 2) make him feel like he isn't an idiot since they intend on taking his chips.

If he was the BB, the short stacked pusher was SB and the blinds were doubled then it's probably a call... This call was terrible.
